Student Policies

 *The following expectations are for the safety and welfare of all children.

  1. Good manners e.g. Please, Thank you, Excuse me, Opening doors for adults insisted upon.

  2. Before School. Children are to be organised before school i.e. books in desks, pencils sharpened, bags and coats on hooks.

  3. Respect for all adults and children. Respect the opinions and the property of others. No put downs.

  4. Morning Tea. Assemble assigned area.

  5. Lunch. Children to remain seated until dismissed.

  6. Recycling. Children during playtime and lunch time are to take their rubbish home.

  7. Playground Areas:

    • Sandpit ; Rooms 1-6

    • Adventure playground – all classes.

    • Trees next to playground – only Rooms 1-6.

  8. Phys Ed Shed and Recycle area: Entry only permitted by shed monitors and teachers.

  9. Cycle Stand. Out of bounds during the day.

  10. Library. Open each day from 12.45 – 1.00 for exchanging books. No food is to be taken into the library.

  11. Sunhats:  Sunhats are to be worn during term 1 and 4. No hat No play.

  12. Children Inside at Playtime: Children are only permitted inside to complete work if their name has been placed on the board by the teacher.

  13. Walking. Children are to walk inside and around the school buildings.

  14. No Ball Kicking - On asphalt outside rooms 7, 8 and 9 or on the back court.

  15. Yellow Flag: grass fields are out of bounds.

  16. Trampoline: Only one area at a time.

  17. Office: Children are not to be in the office area unless sent by a teacher. Office not to be used as a thoroughfare.

 

Consequences

FIRST TIME: Name to be placed on the ‘Duty’ clipboard.

SECOND TIME: Children to report to the Deputy Principal. Lines from a selected piece of work in a set area will be set.

THIRD TIME: Children to report to the Principal. A phone call home will be made. Restricted play will be enforced.

 

 

Ohoka School Rules

  1. We keep ourselves and others safe

This means:

  • We stay within the fence lines and away from out of bounds area including behind the hall and the bike stands.

  • We walk inside, around all corners and around school buildings

  • We use playground equipment appropriately and return it

  • We go inside as soon as the bell rings

  • We only play tackle sports when a coach or appropriately qualified person is supervising.

  • We follow the Yellow Flag guidelines

  • We play tag on the back field only

  • We stay in the designated areas for morning tea and lunch until dismissed by the Duty Teacher

  1. We treat ourselves and others with respect

This means:

  • We obey and respect staff, school helpers and visitors by using our manners and following instructions the first time.

  • We wear uniforms correctly including a sunhat in Terms 1 and 4

  • We wear ear studs as our only jewellery.  No make up.

  • We do not hurt others with words or actions

  • We keep our hands, feet and objects to ourselves.

  • We do not:

  • bully (physically or verbally)

  • tease or say put downs

  • use inappropriate language or gesture

  1. We respect all property

This means:

  • We treat our school equipment, property and environment with care

  • We encourage others to look after our environment

  • We use the library form 12:45 – 1:00pm daily but we do not take food in there

  • We are aware of the areas we play in:

  • Adventure playground – all classes

  • Sand pit Rooms 1 – 6

  • Playground tree Rooms 1 – 6

 

Organising the System

  1. Classroom Behaviour Rules

    All classes need a clear, positive set of classroom rules and provide action to support these rules.

    Consequences for regarding rules

    • For example:- continual reminders, praise, awards, positive note to parents,
      mention at assembly, extra play when applicable, send to Principal.

    • Rewards need to be dispensed: - frequently, in small doses and immediately.

    • Consequences for disregarding rules will vary according to classroom

     

  2. School wide Targets

    The following areas of behaviour will be targeted.

    Targets:

    • Manners - Please, thankyou, good morning, good afternoon, pardon, excuse me, passing through doors.

    • Inappropriate language: Gestures, swearing

    • Respect – people, care consideration, school, equipment, litter, property, library books, own  property, clothing, named etc.

    • Aggression: No aggressive behaviour, physical e.g. pushing, kicking, fighting,   verbal hitting, spitting, answering back.

CREDITS:

As an incentive for the children the Duty teacher can give out ‘Credits’ to children that are playing well during the play time or lunch time. The child writes his/her name on the ticket. They then place the ticket in the ‘Credit Box’. At an assembly, names are then drawn out of the box and the child drawn out will receive a special award.
